This easy chicken salad wrap is the ultimate quick lunch or light dinner. Made with creamy avocado, crisp lettuce, shredded cheese, and your favorite chicken salad, it all gets tucked into a soft tortilla for a satisfying meal. This is the recipe to reach for when you need a quick lunch, meal prep, or even for a picnic!

about this chicken salad wrap
There’s something about a chicken wrap that just never gets old. It’s one of those meals that feels like it can take on any mood you’re in — light and refreshing one day, bold and flavor-packed the next.
This chicken salad wrap is the kind of recipe that gives you a solid foundation but leaves plenty of room for you to make it your own. It’s hearty enough to fill you up, but still quick enough to pull together in the middle of a busy weekday.
Wraps are the best way to raid your fridge and get creative with whatever you have on hand. Some days I keep it classic with crisp lettuce, creamy avocado, and a little shredded cheese. Other days I’m feeling fiery and drizzle on hot sauce or spoon over chili crisp. If I want more crunch, I add in cucumbers or even a handful of crushed tortilla chips.
If you don’t want to switch up the toppings, then switch the chicken salad recipe! There are so many chicken salad recipes to choose from that you can make this wrap over and over again without ever getting bored. Honestly chicken salad is constantly in my fridge because it’s the best way to use up leftover chicken whether it’s rotisserie chicken, chicken breasts, or chicken thighs.
It’s flexible, it’s easy, and honestly, it’s the kind of meal you’ll keep coming back to because you can always spin it a little differently.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This simple recipe is always a favorite because it’s:
- Ready in 10 minutes with minimal prep.
- Great for meal prep or packable lunches.
- Customizable with different toppings and add-ins.
- A fun twist on the classic chicken salad sandwich.
- Satisfying without being heavy.

ingredients
Tortilla. You can use whole wheat wraps, flour tortillas, or even spinach wraps for this recipe.
Avocado. Gives you an extra addition of creaminess and flavor. You could even use leftover guacamole if you have it!
Chicken salad. Use your favorite recipe! My personal favorite is this curried chicken salad.
Lettuce. Chopped romaine lettuce or iceberg lettuce give you a little extra crunch. You could also use arugula, cabbage, or baby spinach if you prefer.
Cheese. Use your favorite shredded cheese! For us, it’s usually shredded sharp cheddar cheese, but Mexican-style blends, pepper jack, Colby jack, and mozzarella are tasty too. Pick one that pairs best with the flavors in your chicken salad.
More toppings. Add as much as you want to pack in the flavor and texture! Cucumber slices, chopped cherry tomatoes, green onions, chopped celery, fresh herbs like parsley or dill, chili crisp, hot sauce, a squeeze of lemon juice or lime juice, or a sprinkle of nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, etc). The options are endless.
this recipe’s must-haves
You don’t need any specialty equipment to make this recipe! A chef’s knife and utility cutting board come in handy for prepping the lettuce. Other than that, just a knife to cut the wrap!

how to make a chicken salad wrap
prep
If you are using a flour tortilla, we recommend warming it in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds to make it more pliable. This makes it less likely to rip. Whole wheat wraps and other wraps are usually flexible enough without warming.
fill
Spread the mashed avocado in an even layer down the center of the tortilla.
Top with a layer of lettuce, then cheese, then chicken salad mixture.
Add in any extra toppings, if using.
wrap
To wrap, start by folding in the sides in the center, then gently pull the bottom up and over the filling. Roll tightly, pressing gently to keep everything together. Don’t press down too hard or it will tear.
Slice in half and serve.

Tips for Success
Keep it fresh – Line your tortilla with lettuce before adding chicken salad to help prevent sogginess if you’re prepping the wrap ahead of time.
Avocado swap: If you’re out of avocado, hummus or a thin layer of cream cheese makes a great base. The key is to choose a thicker spread that won’t make the tortilla soggy.
Change up the cheese – Shredded cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella all work well. Pair the cheese with the flavors in your chicken salad!
Wrap it tight: Rolling firmly keeps everything in place and makes it easier to slice.

faqs
Can I make chicken salad wraps ahead of time?
Yes. Prep the chicken salad and toppings in advance, then assemble wraps just before eating for the best texture.
You can also prep the wraps the same day for lunch. They can sit for a few hours, but I don’t like them to sit longer than a day because the lettuce and tortilla get soggy.
What’s the best tortilla for wraps?
Large, burrito-style tortillas (8–10 inches) or wraps are easiest to roll without tearing.
How long will chicken salad wraps last?
Once assembled, they’re best eaten within 24 hours. Most chicken salad recipes will keep in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.

what to serve with a chicken salad wrap
While the wrap is filling on its own, we always like to pair it with simple sides for a little something extra. That could be fresh fruit, apple slices, your favorite chips, side salad, etc.
I personally love to pair half of a wrap with a cozy bowl of soup. Here’s some soups to consider pairing with this recipe:
- Instant Pot Tomato Soup
- Curried Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
- Instant Pot Ham and Bean Soup
- Stout French Onion Soup
- Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
how to store
Store. Wraps are best when assembled just before serving. You can also wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before eating.
Meal Prep Tip: Keep tortillas and filling separate until you’re ready to eat.
