about this blueberry margarita

If you are all about blueberries, then these blueberry margaritas are going to be your new favorite cocktail.

Historically, I am not a big fan of fruity cocktails. If I order a margarita while I’m out, I’m always going for the classic margarita whenever I can.

Why?

Well, usually the fruity margaritas are all sugar and not enough fruity flavor. But today, we are changing that with these blueberry margaritas!

While these cocktails are fruity, they are not overly sweet like other margaritas you might have had in the past! They are just the right balance of sweet, tart, and tangy.

What’s really great about this recipe is that it is easy to customize to your flavor preference. Want it a little sweeter and fruitier? Add in more blueberry sauce for more blueberry flavor. Need a little more kick of tequila? Add another splash! Want it less sugar, add a little more tart lime juice.

With just a handful of ingredients, these fresh and juicy margaritas are easy to make and even easier to drink. You’ll want to sip on them all spring and summer long!

ingredients

blueberries. Fresh blueberries are best! Make sure they are ripe, plump, and vibrant to get the best flavor out of these margaritas. You can also use frozen blueberries, if that’s all you have on hand.

agave. Use agave nectar or simple syrup to sweeten these cocktails.

tequila. Select your favorite blanco tequila (also called silver tequila)! It’s clear and colorless, making it ideal for this cocktail. My personal favorites are a mid-range price point like El Jimador or Dobel. You can use something more top shelf if you prefer, like Patron.

lime juice. Fresh lime juice is always best!

Cointreau. You can use Cointreau or Grand Marnier in this recipe. Triple sec is another orange liqueur option, but the flavor of the drink will be much better with Cointreau or Grand Marnier.

garnish. I like to use fresh blueberries and a lime wheel to garnish these margaritas!

here’s how to make a blueberry margarita

make blueberry sauce

Add blueberries, agave, and water to a blender. Blend until smooth. Personally, I don’t mind the flecks of blueberry in the sauce, but some might not want that for the look. Therefore, you can strain the sauce to make it smooth, if preferred.

shake

Add 1/2 cup of the blueberry sauce to a shaker filled halfway with ice. Pour in tequila blanco, lime juice, and Cointreau or Grand Marnier.

Shake until well combined and chilled.

strain

Strain the cocktail into cocktail glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with fresh blueberries and a lime slice. Enjoy!
