about this pineapple mango salsa

A good fruit salsa is hard to beat on a hot summer day. To me, the sign of a truly great fruity salsa is that you could completely skip the tortilla chips and eat it by the spoonful straight out of the bowl.

That’s exactly what this fresh pineapple mango salsa is.

This recipe is seriously addictive. It’s sweet, tangy, and has just a little heat at the end of each bite. While it’s delicious when served alongside chips, you can also use it a ton of different ways!

Throw it on some fish tacos, use it as a topping for grilled chicken, or add it to your favorite poke bowl.

All you have to do is chop, stir, and you are ready to go.

Of course, we always have a pro tip in our back pocket for every recipe… For this one, make sure that you let it sit for at least 30 minutes before serving it. The extra time lets the flavors come together and makes the salsa taste even better!

ingredients

pineapple. Make sure the juicy pineapple your select is ripe! You will need 2 cups of chopped pineapple, which is about one medium pineapple.

mango. Select two mangos, whatever your favorite varietal might be!

bell pepper. We like to use a red bell pepper for the color variation, but you could also use green bell pepper, orange bell pepper, or yellow bell pepper.

onion. Red onion is best for this salsa! You could also use white onion, if preferred.

jalapeño. Make sure to seed and devein the jalapeno pepper before dicing them! Otherwise the salsa will be very spicy.

cilantro. Fresh cilantro is best for this recipe! However, if cilantro tastes soapy to you, you can always use fresh parsley or omit the fresh herbs entirely.

garlic. You can peel and mince the cloves yourself, or simply buy garlic that’s already been minced.

spices. All you need is a combination of salt, chili powder, and black pepper for this recipe.

lime. Fresh limes are needed for their juice! You can also use store-bought lime juice, but fresh will always yield a better flavor.

here’s how to make pineapple mango salsa

stir

Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl, stirring to combine. Once everything is incorporated, cover with plastic wrap.

let sit

Place in the refrigerator and let chill for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will allow the flavors to meld together, resulting in a better tasting salsa. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.

tips and tricks

pick a ripe pineapple. To know if a pineapple is ripe, make sure the exterior doesn’t have any squishy spots or cracks. The leaves should be bright green instead of brown. Our favorite way to determine if a pineapple is ripe is to pull a leaf from the center of the top. If it easily comes out, the pineapple is ripe and ready to use!

pick a ripe fresh mango. Ripe mangos will give slightly when you press your fingers on the outside. It should also smell fruity at the stem.

adjust to taste. Everyone’s taste preferences are different! Therefore, we recommend tasting the salsa and adjusting the flavors however you like. Perhaps you like it more tart? Add some lime juice. Want to make it spicier? Add another jalapeño.

how do I make this salsa spicier?

To make this salsa spicier, include the seeds from the jalapenos. You can also add in another jalapeno for more heat. A final option would be to stir in a big pinch of red pepper flakes!

can I used canned pineapple for this recipe?

Since this is a fresh fruit salsa, fresh pineapple is preferred for the best flavor and texture in this recipe. We do not recommend using canned pineapple or frozen pineapple, if you can avoid it.

how long does this pineapple mango salsa last?

We do recommend that you let the salsa sit for at least 30 minutes before serving because it helps the flavors meld together. If you happen to have any leftover salsa, they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Note that the texture of the fruit will soften over time, so it’s best to eat it the day the salsa is made.
