about these air fryer ravioli

Fried ravioli are one of my favorite snacks to eat for tailgating season, and even holiday season to be honest.

Of course, getting out a big pot of oil to fry them is not always something I have time for. So instead, we are leaning on the air fryer to make these cheesy and crunchy golden brown bites.

All you have to do is take some store-bought ravioli (yeah, I said store-bought, we’re keeping it easy here), coat them in a simple breadcrumb mixture, and pop them in the air fryer. That’s it. Seriously. It’s so easy, I almost feel guilty when my friends rave about them. Almost.

What I love most about these ravioli is how versatile they are. Feeling fancy? Serve them with a dollop of marinara sauce on top for a bite-sized appetizer for a party. Getting ready for game day? Eat them straight out of the basket with a side of sauce for dipping. Once you try these, you’ll be finding excuses to make them all the time!

here’s how to make air fryer ravioli

dredge

In a shallow small bowl, whisk the eggs until lightly beaten.

In a separate bowl, stir together bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, dried basil, dried oregano, garlic powder, and salt.

Dip each ravioli in egg, shaking off any excess. Coat in the bread crumb mixture on both sides, then place on a plate and repeat with remaining ravioli.

air fry

Grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the ravioli in a single layer in the air fryer (you may need to work in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer). Spray the tops with cooking spray.

Cook for 3 to 5 minutes per side, until just golden.

serve

Serve warm with a sprinkle of basil and marinara sauce for dipping.

tips and tricks

use freshly grated parmesan. Freshly grated parmesan will give you the best texture and flavor for this recipe! While you can use pre-grated cheese, we recommend fresh for the best results.

keep a close eye on them! Most air fryers are consistent, but there can be minor discrepancies with temperature across different brands. Make sure to check the ravioli so they do not explode. For us, it took a total of 8 to 9 minutes for them to get browned to our liking. If you see the ravioli blowing up into round-ish bubbles, it’s about time to take them out so they don’t burst!

do I have to boil the ravioli before frying?

There is no need to boil the ravioli before starting this recipe!

can frozen ravioli be air fried?

We do not recommend using frozen ravioli for this recipe as a first choice. If you do, the coating will slide off and the ravioli edges will end up burning in the air fryer before the center cooks through. However, you can thaw the frozen ravioli if you need to use frozen.

do I have to use the breadcrumb coating?

If you are wondering how to air fry ravioli without breadcrumbs, you can definitely do so. Instead of making the breadcrumb coating, stir together the spices and parmesan cheese in a bowl. Toss the ravioli with some olive oil in a large bowl, then add the parmesan cheese mix, tossing to coat. Air fryer for only 5 minutes total and enjoy!

can I use regular bread crumbs for the toasted ravioli?

Yes you can! If you do, mix together 1 cup of regular breadcrumbs with 2 tsp Italian seasoning. Voila! You have your own homemade Italian bread crumbs.

what to serve with air fryer ravioli

We love to serve this crispy ravioli with a big cup of marinara sauce for dunking. You can also serve them with our favorite ranch dip or pesto sauce. They are just as tasty without a dip, so you can enjoy them on their own without dipping too.

Since ravioli makes me think of Italian, I like to pair these with an Italian cocktail! Something light and refreshing, like a tart limoncello spritz or a balanced aperol and soda, to balance out the heartiness of the cheesy appetizer.

how to store

Store. Cool the leftovers until it reaches room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.

Reheat. Remove from the fridge and reheat the ravioli in the air fryer! Air fry for 3 to 4 minutes at 350˚F until crispy again.
