about these banana chocolate chip waffles
Warm and golden brown chocolate chip banana waffles will quickly become your new favorite breakfast! With this recipe, you get that perfectly crispy exterior with a fluffy interior studded with little gooey chocolate chips. The banana flavor is doubled because of the ridiculously good banana scent that fills the kitchen.
I grew up with banana chocolate chip pancakes that my mom would make me on the weekends. The banana and chocolate combination is one of my favorites, so I had to turn it into a waffle.
Primarily because I am not the best pancake maker… but waffles? Waffles I can do!
What makes these waffles truly special is their perfect balance of flavors and textures. The banana adds natural sweetness and keeps the interior tender with chocolate chips scattered throughout!
They are our absolute favorite to make every weekend! We enjoy them fresh from the waffle maker, then wrap up the extras to freeze for mornings throughout the week.
Top them with extra banana slices, chocolate chips, maple syrup, whipped cream, or whatever your heart desires!
ingredients
flour. Use all-purpose flour for this recipe. You can also use a gluten free 1:1 ratio flour instead to make it gluten-free.
baking powder. The only leavener you need is baking powder. Make sure that it isn’t expired before using it!
sugar. All you need is granulated sugar for this recipe.
salt. We recommend using kosher fine salt for these waffles.
milk. You can use your favorite milk type for this recipe! We usually use 2% milk. If you use an alternative milk like almond milk to make this recipe dairy-free, make sure it is unflavored and unsweetened.
eggs. Use large eggs for this recipe.
butter. Unsalted butter is best. You can use salted butter, but you need to omit the salt called for in the recipe instead. Use a dairy-free alternative, if desired.
banana. Make sure that your banana is nice and ripe before using it in this recipe.
vanilla. Learn how to make your own homemade vanilla extract! It is so much less expensive than buying it in the store and you can adjust the strength to your liking. Alternatively, we really like this Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract from Nielsen Massey.
chocolate chips. We find that mini chocolate chips give you the best texture and little pops of chocolate throughout each waffle.

how do I get my waffles crispy?
The biggest key to getting your waffles crispy with golden edges is to make sure your waffle iron is hot. As soon as you add the batter to the waffle iron, you should hear the batter sizzle.
To KEEP them crispy, place your cooked waffles on a wire rack set inside a baking sheet. Place in an oven preheated to 250ËšF. This will keep the waffles arm and with crispy edges. Make sure that you don’t stack them up! Keep them in a single layer.
